Pack light. Every pound you can shed from your luggage makes it that much easier to move around, not to mention the fact that you’ll be rewarded with more legroom on any flights and less weight in your bags.

Dress in layers. This will allow you to adjust your clothing based on the weather and also provide some options for dressing up a more casual look, depending on where you’re headed.

Pack an extra outfit or two, just in case! Packing too many clothes can be as bad as not packing enough; it’s always good to have one or two extra outfits to wear in case of spills, wrinkles, or other unforeseen accidents.

Pack a few more toiletries than you think you’ll need; this includes toothpaste, deodorant, and shower supplies such as shampoo and conditioner.

Be sure to pack any medications that are necessary for your health while traveling—and also include any vitamins.

Pack an external battery charger for your mobile devices, laptop, and camera in case the power sources aren’t up to par where you’re going; this will save you some stress on vacation from having a dead phone or device.

Organize everything before packing so that everything is easy to find when it’s time to leave (and you have less to do while packing).
